Strange Fruit”, the song about black lynching in the south made famous by blues singer Billie Holiday, was originally a poem written by Abel Meeropol, a Jewish schoolteacher from the Bronx. It was a huge protest for Billie to sing this song to all white audiences, but she did, often facing angry shouts and walkouts from her performances. She risked her life to sing the truth. #billieholiday

Actress Hedy Lamarr is said to have tipped the balance of WWII. Not only is she almost unbelievably beautiful, she was also exceedingly clever. She was the co-inventor of an early wireless form of communication; her invention allowed shortwave radio communications on the field. She gave the invention, for no compensation, to the US Government. the Germans did not yet have this capability.

'If you’re going to be a star, you have to look like a star, and I never go out unless I look like Joan Crawford the movie star. If you want to see the girl next door, go next door' | Joan Crawford (photograph by George Hurrell, 1933)
I wish people took the time to read about Joan Crawford. Most people just watch “Mommie Dearest” and think Joan was a monster. According to Christina, a lot of the film is an exaggeration & the “no more wire hangers” scene never happened. Joan deserves more respect; she doesn't deserve the ignorance. She was known as the most thoughtful of women, who replied to ALL of her fans with a personal letter. Look at what her friends, husbands and daughters Cindy and Cathy have to say. That’s Joan.
