Cool old photo of the Cliff House in San Francisco. I never noticed how precarious it looks!
Adolph Sutro’s Victorian Cliff House was a restaurant perched on the headland above the cliffs just north of Ocean Beach, on the western side of San Francisco, California. It survived the 1906 earthquake, but burned to the ground in 1907. Photo c. 1905. Cliff House has since been rebuilt.

Moreton Island, Queensland, Australia: The Tangalooma Wrecks - Oft confused for shipwrecks at the edge of the Bermuda Triangle, these 15 ships were deliberately sunk (beginning in 1963) to create a breakwall for smaller boats. Today the area is popular for snorkeling and scuba diving.
Awesome Place! Moreton Bay / Queensland, Australia. Fifteen vessels have been deliberately sunk on the landward side of Moreton Island to form a breakwall for small boats and a wreck dive and snorkel site. Even in this shallow water, the wrecks attract an amazing amount of marine life.

The battered remains of the magnificent SS American Star represent one of the world’s most documented shipwrecks. Originally called SS America and considered by many to be the most beautiful liner ever to fly the US flag, the vessel, which was launched in 1940 for the United States Line, ran aground off the Canary Islands in 1994. Notorious for drugs and crime, Hong Kong’s Kowloon Walled City was once thought to be the most densely populated place in the world. Over 50,000 people were crammed into 300 interconnected high-rise buildings, which made for intolerably unsanitary conditions and anarchic political turmoil. 1972 Andes crash survivors
Rugby Team - plane crash in the Andes - (this picture) The survivors taken from a colour film camera found in the tail piece of the plane - The book "Alive" written by Piers Paul Read - One of the most heart-wrenching books I've ever read. A must read!
The ultimate survival story. It was October. They were just going from their home town in Uraguay for a friendly rugby match in Chile, flying over the dramatic, snowy heights of the Andes mountains. And then it happened: the plane is in the middle of a snow storm with heavy winds, the pilot loses control, and they go down. The crash was quiet, soft, mysterious, some survivors report. The 24 who were still living were mostly fine. What logic, they ask, in their survival; the others' death?
"Alive"-Andes, Uruguayan Rugby Team-Srvivors trapped in snow bank valley 72 days. With ferocity of crash os amazing they didn’t all die; the plane clipped a peak severing wing with such force the vertical stabilizer ripped a hole in the fuselage. Plane then clipped another peak tearing off the left wing, the plane hurtled like a bullet. Hit top of glacier (later named the Glacier of Tears), shot down valley, came to abrupt stop causing seats from positions crushing/killing many passengers).

The Movie Alive was a great movie;) even though it was based on a true story
Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 "the Andes flight disaster" or "Miracle in the Andes" was a chartered flight carrying 45 people, (a rugby team, family and friends) that crashed in the Andes on 13 October 1972. More than a quarter of the passengers died in the crash, and several others quickly succumbed to cold and injury. Another 8 were killed by an avalanche that swept over their shelter in the wreckage. The last 16 survivors were rescued on 23 December 1972, more than two months after the crash

Kowloon Walled City was a largely ungoverned Chinese settlement in Kowloon, Hong Kong, comprising of 350 interconnected high-rise buildings where 33,000 residents lived within a plot measuring just 210 meter by 120 meter. Originally a Chinese military fort, the Walled City became an enclave after the New Territories were leased to Britain in 1898. it was thought to be the most densely populated place on earth- It can't have been much fun to live there....demolished now
Kowloon Walled City, Hongkong
Kowloon Walled City, Hong Kong, China. Its not pretty but the history behind it is interesting. It was a bunch of interconnected buildings, parts of which used to be a military fort. It was so dense that sunlight barely made it to the lower levels. People fled to there when control of Hong Kong was ceded to Britain and even more came during World War II when Japan invaded Hong Kong. In the '60s and '70s it was controlled by organized crime Triads and was full of drugs and prostitution. At it...
Kowloon Walled City. The Kowloon Walled City was a densely populated, ungoverned area in New Kowloon, Hong Kong. Originally a Chinese military fort, it fell under the control of the Triads after the government gave up control. Known for drug trafficking and prostitution, at its ‘high point’ the city had 33,000 residents within its .010 square mile area, building their living quarters upward instead of outward and storing a whopping 4,000 pounds of drugs within its borders.
Kowloon Walled City. Its population flourished for decades, w/ residents building labyrinthine corridors above the street level, which was clogged w/ trash. The buildings grew so tall that sunlight couldn’t reach the bottom levels & the entire city had to be illuminated w/ fluorescent lights. It was a place where brothels, casinos, opium dens, cocaine parlors, food courts serving dog meat & secret factories ran unmolested by authorities. It was finally torn down in 1993.
