loved this story. definitely the kind of book worth reading a few times to fully grasp the time and setting changes and how each character's stories become woven together.
A video book review of A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. One of the top picks from In the Stacks librarians for your book club to read and the Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction in 2011.
Jennifer Egan has does something very unique, creating both a novel meant to be read sequentially, and a collection of short stories that can be read on their own. Regardless of how you choose to proceed with her work, A Visit From the Goon Squad, is masterful in its conception and even more well done in its execution.
A Visit From the Goon Squad, a novel about the interconnected lives of people on the fringe of the music business was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2011
Had a visit at Sazerac yesterday from Jennifer Egan, author of the lovely contemporary novel, A Visit From the Goon Squad.
I happened to see this first line from a new novel featured in Time Magazine: "It began the usual way, in the bathroom of the Lassimo Hotel." Quiet, interesting, intriguing. The novel is Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad.
A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan [A startling, exhilarating novel of self-destruction and redemption.]
A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan: Jennifer Egan's new novel is a fantastically inventive, intelligent, and fully realized exploration of music, art, and life. It even includes a chapter written in PowerPoint, which is actually a pleasure to read. A Visit from the Goon Squad is Egan's most accomplished work...
On my reading list! A Visit From The Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan. Bennie is an aging former punk rocker and record executive. Sasha is the passionate, troubled young woman he employs. Here Jennifer Egan brilliantly reveals their pasts, along with the inner lives of a host of other characters whose paths intersect with theirs. With music pulsing on every page, A Visit from the Goon Squad is a startling, exhilarating novel of self-destruction and redemption.

River of Smoke by Amitav Ghosh. The sequel to Sea of Poppies definitely does not disappoint, and I think in some ways I liked it better. This book takes place (mostly) in Canton, China in the months preceding the outbreak of the Opium Wars. A very detailed account, Ghosh bases his narrative off of historical documents and artifacts left behind by the real people involved. Many of the characters are based off of real people. It's basically awesome.

Ok. The Oregon File series by Clive Cussler. Sort of "dude" books, I guess, but for some reason I think they are fun. It's easy reading - great for the gym, and I think I maybe have a little bit of a fictional literary crush on protaginist Juan Cabrillo ;)
