Burst Into The Blue - Nature Home Asia As you know I love Superfoods, there are so many that help boost our body’s immune system, keep us looking young and ward off all the bad stuff that we all want to avoid. Recently I started adding blueberries to my diet, as they are so good for you! Known for being high in antioxidants and better still, they taste delicious so you won't need to hide them in recipes to get the good stuff into you. You can buy fresh or frozen blueberries in most supermarkets these days, but when selecting which of these blue little beauties my best tip to you is to make sure the blueberries are rich and bright in colour and move freely when you gently shake the container. If not they could be mouldy, soft or damaged. When buying frozen blueberries, shake the bag gently to ensure that the berries move around and are not clumped together, which may suggest that they have been thawed and refrozen. So what exactly can this small blue fruit do for you in your everyday life? Experts in the U.S. who carried out the latest study into blueberries’ health benefits, believe they may change the way in which we process fat and sugar in our body. Their findings were presented to the Experimental Biology convention in New Orleans after tests on obese rats. Researchers found that if the animals were given meals enriched with blueberries, they lost fat from their stomachs. More research is required but the signs are positive that blueberries do in fact help reduce body fat. With any of my Superfoods, I always try to include ones that are high in antioxidants. Well good news, blueberries contain the highest amount of antioxidants than any other fruit. They are very rich in Anthocyanin, vitamin C, B complex, vitamin E, vitamin A, copper (a very effective immune builder and anti-bacterial), selenium, zinc, iron (promotes immunity by raising haemoglobin and oxygen concentration in blood) etc. Eating a ¼ of a cup of these little powerhouses a day can boost up your immune system and prevent infections. Once your immunity is strong, you are less likely to catch colds and nasty viruses. Great for me and for my little boy! And of course, with any superfood, we are all looking to reduce the signs of ageing. Well, blueberries do this too! Blueberries neutralise free radicals which can affect disease and ageing in the body! YES!! So...give blueberries a whirl and try adding these delicious berries to your diet to increase your bodies health naturally. Glowing Skin Smoothie + What to Eat for Perfect Skin This smoothie is PACKED with all of the essential foods for that smooth, glowing skin you've always wanted. √ The avocado. Avocados hydrate your skin which brings back that glow we all crave. It is filled with oils and good fats to promote health skin and hair. √ The mangos and pineapple. Mangos contain carotenoids, which help our skin glow while pineapples are high in vitamin C. These nutrients help produce collagen which makes our skin firm and youthful. √ Spinach OR kale may be used. Both are nutrient dense super foods! Try throwing these guys in soups, salads, omelets, etc! √ Coconut water. It’s incredibly hydrating and makes skin look more youthful and shiny. It's not the best tasting thing under the sun, but added into a smoothie its fine! Plus, you get used to that taste :) If you’re replacing a meal with this smoothie, try adding a little flax or flax oil. Your skin needs oil to keep it hydrated! 2-3 teaspoons per serving is perfect. Ingredients: 1/2 cup plain coconut water* 2 frozen ripe bananas, previously peeled & sliced 1 cup chopped pineapple (frozen or fresh) 1 cup chopped mango (frozen or fresh) 2 cups spinach or kale 1/2 avocado, sliced optional: 1 Tablespoon ground flax or flaxseed oil Directions: Make sure you have a strong, powerful blender. Add all of the ingredients to the blender in the order listed. Blend on high for at least 3 minutes or until smooth. Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed. Add more coconut water if it's too thick.
