I saw this guy on PBS - Normally authors put me off as know it alls, but this guy really spoke in a way I got it. I may have a bad habit that I could change... 1 or 2. =)

The Chronicles of Narnia series. Gift from my Godparents when I was six. Favorite series. Reread two of them recently. Still great...
The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis. I recommend reading them in the order in which they were originally published (LWW first, before TMN). For some reason, they changed the order of the books so that they read chronologically. I think that this was a big mistake, and takes a bit of the magic away. My personal favorite is The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
@Overstock - This includes all seven books in the Chronicles of Narnia series: The Magicianss Nephew, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Horse and His Boy, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair and The Last Battle.http://www.overstock.com/Books-Movies-Music-Games/The-Chronicles-of-Narnia-Box-Set-Full-Color-Collectors-Edition-by-C.-S.-Lewis-Paperback/109582/product.html?CID=214117 $31.39

. The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven fantasy novels for children written by C. S. Lewis. It is considered a classic of children's literature and is the author's best-known work, having sold over 120 million copies in 41 languages. Written by Lewis between 1949 and 1954 and illustrated by Pauline Baynes, The Chronicles of Narnia have been adapted several times, complete or in part, for radio, television, stage, and cinema. In addition to numerous traditional Christian themes, the series borrows characters and ideas from Greek and Roman mythology, as well as from traditional British and Irish fairy tales. The Chronicles of Narnia present the adventures of children who play central roles in the unfolding history of the fictional realm of Narnia, a place where animals talk, magic is common, and good battles evil. Each of the books (with the exception of The Horse and His Boy) features as its protagonists children from our world who are magically transported to Narnia, where they are called upon to help the Lion Aslan handle a crisis in the world of Narnia. The Joy Luck Club - A story about mothers and daughters. Perfect for a mother-daughter book club. However, there are a lot of characters in this book (and the book is written in about 8 different voices) so it may be difficult for some to understand. Do not let that dis sway you from reading the book though, it is soo worth it.
The Joy Luck Club - Amy Tan. Loved Amy Tan after the first chapter. Gives endearing insight into the mother-daughter dynamic among Asian immigrants. Bottom line: all mothers and daughters have the same challenges.
“Because sometimes that is the only way to remember what is in your bones. You must peel off your skin, and that of your mother, and her mother. Until there is nothing. No scar, no skin, no flesh." The Joy Luck Club ~ Amy Tan.
Amy Tan is an American writer whose works explore mother-daughter relationships. Her most well-known work is The Joy Luck Club, which has been translated into 35 languages. In 1993, the book was adapted into a commercially successful film.

2016 Reading List
The book club was a huge success; I think the touch of Tara's fried green apples and cornbread made it even sweeter. As discussed during book club, this book was vastly different from the movie. The story line starts out with Evelyn, a lonesome house wife in Alabama whose husband barely notices her anymore, and Mrs. Threadgoode, a colorful Southern woman who lived through the depression and KKK threats; they meet for the first time in an old folk’s home and from there the stories of past and present unfold. Fannie Flagg brings to life a time when prejudice was an accepted thing and back door murders were on the rise. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café is story of beautiful friendships and what lengths people would do to keep the ones they cherish most close to them. The topic of whether or not Idgie and Ruth are in a domestic relationship was the first thing that came up. I recently just watched the movie for the first time and never once did that thought pop into my mind, but as I read the book and the moment Ruth saw Idgie as the Bee-charmer I was instantly double-guessing the relationship between the two women. Set aside all of the things you have read on the internet, other bloggers sitting in their homes behind a computer screen—just take that all out of your mind. In this book the two never once share any “intimate” moments, the unspoken acts of love are lingering throughout the book the real silver lining, I believe, is the fact that situations in time (the 80s compared to the 30s) are evolving but still happening. The author has taken controversial topics such as prejudice, murder, sexual awakening, and shines a spotlight on them that is up for discussion. By far my favorite part is the bored housewife, Evelyn, who suddenly realizes, through Mrs. Threadgoode’s stories, that she is in fact stronger. That she is a strong confident woman that needs to stop wasting her life away. The moment that Evelyn pulls a “Rowanda” my heart jumps in triumph for her as I cheer her on to succeed. If you are thinking about reading this book it is a good time piece that brings to life the racism that was a huge problem back in 1930, but in my opinion nothing beats the movie with Kathy Bates. The four actresses that play the main characters just do such an amazing job in the movie, getting across the true feelings of life and all of its glory. Though, in the book there is a bigger story line on Ruth’s son and multiple stories that are never brought up in the film adaption. I did enjoy the movie more—but that may just be because I am such a wimp when authors get too graphic for my taste.

I fell in love with Augusten Burroughs' writing with this first memoir. Do yourself a favour and read this book!
If you like David Sedaris you'll enjoy Augusten Burroughs as well. Witty, sarcastic, humorous!
one my absolute favorite books from my absolute favorite author <3 he's fantastic.
Running with Scissors is the true story of a boy whose mother (a poet with delusions of Anne Sexton) gave him away to be raised by her psychiatrist, a dead-ringer for Santa and a lunatic in the bargain. Suddenly, at age twelve, Augusten Burroughs found himself living in a dilapidated Victorian in perfect squalor. The doctor's bizarre family, a few patients, and a pedophile living in the backyard shed completed the tableau. Here, there were no rules, there was no school. The Christmas tree stayed up until summer, and Valium was eaten like Pez. And when things got dull, there was always the vintage electroshock therapy ...

I Am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced - Nujood Ali (with Delphine Minoui). A true story about a 10 year old married to a 30+year old man. Very good read, although it's very obvious she didn't write this, and some of the phrases sound too adult and 'authoresque'. Still, it's her story, so I guess she gets top billing, right?

Today’s post is brought to you by the letter L. Picking my favorite five books in 26 different genres isn’t easy. Some genres have TONS of great books, and other letters don’t really have obvious genres. So I’m cheating and doubling up. I know that C was for classic, and I already told you about my five favorite classics. But L is for Literature, so now I’m going to tell you about five more. Aren’t I crafty? What’s your favorite l gem? A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. I almost went with a different John Irving book, but couldn’t keep Owen Meany off my list. This was one of my absolute favorite books as a teenager. Owen is just such an unusual character. Also, John Irvings books are all good at forcing me to think. I don’t necessarily love them as much while I’m reading them, but I spend weeks thinking about them after I’ve turned the last page. A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. I almost put Hamlet on this list, because it’s well Hamlet. But I think Midsummer is my favorite of Shakespeare’s plays, so I decided to list it instead. I love them all though. Shakespeare is remembered and revered for a reason, he wrote so many amazing plays and poems, it’s hard to believe he was only one guy. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Dickens is kind of like Shakespeare, a great master. I love A Tale of Two Cities partially because it’s a great book, and partially out of nostalgia. It was the first bedtime story my mom read to me in our new home after we moved when I was nine. Yes, I loved Dickens when I was nine, and yes, hearing his words made me feel at home in a new place. The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. Before it was a great musical, it was a great book. It’s an interesting mystery that is definitely worth reading. Or I guess you could just visit Broadway and listen to the music of the night instead. Even though I love this book, it is kind of weird reading it—there aren’t any musical interludes, in Phantom. So bazaar. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Another timeless classic, kind of. That’s the thing about classics. People always claim that they’re timeless, and quote them and relate to them now. And really great books do transcend time, to an extent. But come on, today people don’t marry their first cousins, and four miles is never an impenetrable distance. It’s the history that comes with the story that I actually like best about most classics. Tune back in tomorrow for the letter M. Also don't forget to enter my 100 followers contest.
