The Republic of Zaqistan

During Cov-19, we’ve had to get creative, start thinking outside of the box for things to do in Utah that were away from crowds. A buddy of ours asked if we’d heard of Zaqistan...a few google searches later we were out for an adventure to find this micronation located in Utah! We love good side road attractions, but this adventure was even more exciting because it was literally in the middle of nowhere. Nowhere is the perfect place to be right now.

Hiking to Moonshine Arch

The hike to Moonshine Arch is a must-see when visiting Vernal, UT. It's not terribly long (3 miles round-trip) and offers some amazing views. The trailhead is located about 8 miles outside of Vernal, just past Steinaker State Park. See directions here. There's a large parking area, which can fill up on a busy day. But, even if there are a lot of hikers, the trail is spread out enough that it won't feel crowded.

The Great Salt Lake is Pink

A few weeks ago we headed out the Sprial Jetty in the Great Salt Lake, mainly because we wanted to see the Great Salt Lake's pink water! Tiny salt loving microbes change the actual color of the water and it's pretty amazing.

Playing on the Beach at Navajo Lake

In early July we visited Navajo Lake. We almost didn't stop, but I'm glad we did. We drove #BAYMAXtheVAN right up to the edge, put up our shade, and let the kids go wild. You can camp, bike, hike, swim, SUP, kayak canoe, and even bring on boats. You can also rent boats from the Lodge on the west side.

Mammoth Cave near Duck Creek

Mammoth Cave near Duck Creek is such a cool place to explore. Even though it's blazing hot above, once you get under the ground, it's always cool. Bring good shoes and headlamps, or even your phones. If you want to climb all the way through the caves, you'll want your hand free to belly crawl in some places.

Exploring Utah's Sun Tunnels

The Sun Tunnels are a sweet art installation that was completed in 1976. There are four concrete tubes laid out in an X shape, with constellations drilled through the tubes.
