Paul Dowsett's competition- winning Passive House design for New Orleans was a modern update of the shotgun plan, with a sheltered exterior hallway to adapt the plan for our more modern concepts of privacy; we apparently no longer want other family members traipsing through out bedrooms. But it retains the concept.

Modern Delphi Temple
What do you get when you combine art and radios? A temple made of speakers; a modern Delphi Oracle.
How do you create a 21st century version of an ancient Greek temple? Put together a giant pile of old electronics and make it talk! Artist Benoit Maubrey compiled 3,000 recycled loudspeakers, 10 recycled amplifiers, 10 recycled radios/tuners, and a mixing board and soldered the gear into a replica of part of the Greek temple at Delphi. (This electro-acoustic sculpture isn't dedicated to any deity in particular -- unless, of course, you worship the god of gadgets!)
Call 1-800-greek-temple. Artist Benoit Maubrey models a giant public sound sculpture on the temple built at the famed site of the Delphic oracle. Read this blog post by Leslie Katz on Crave. via @CNET

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson ($8.46) http://www.amazon.com/Steve-Jobs/dp/B004W2UBYW%3FSubscriptionId%3D%26tag%3Dhpb4-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D1789%26creative%3D390957%26creativeASIN%3DB004W2UBYW&rpid=ff1391902965/Steve_Jobs This book is a biography of Steve Jobs the founder of apple by Walter Isaacson. - I think most people who may not fully understand a product or its technology will still be able to get the idea of its importance in the scheme of the story. - I would highly recommend this book to anyone as it is detailed but well written and a great read.
I just finished reading Steve Jobs' biography by Walter Isaacson. While I've always been a fan of so many of his products, I hardly knew anything about his career and private life. This book is not only interesting for people interested in Macintosh, iPod, iPhone, iPad, and everything else, it is also a must-read for people interested in technology. It's worth reading if you want to find out, how iGod Steve Jobs really was, and I assure you, you will be surprised.

Made from more than 7,000 books, the Abraham Lincoln Book Tower stands 34 feet tall and 8 feet around in the lobby of the Ford's Theatre Center for Education and Leadership in Washington, D.C. - Actually, the tower is made of aluminum, but has printed covers of actual books written about Abraham Lincoln. Lovely tribute to honest Abe, who is the subject of more than 15,000 books written worldwide. Cool. ~~ Houston Foodlovers Book Club
This President's Day, a group of historians in Washington, D.C., decided they wanted to do something different to recognize the legacy of Abraham Lincoln. But how do you memorialize someone who is already one of the most memorialized people in history? Their solution: to physically illustrate Lincoln's importance by creating a tower of books written about him. The tower measures about eight feet around and 34 feet — that's three and a half stories tall.

Martin Luther King Jr. For some reason I find this inspiring.
Not from "Awesome People Hanging Out Together" but come on, it's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. playing pool like a bamf! Awesome.
There are two kinds of people in the world: those who, when seeing this photo, immediately hear "Werewolves of London" in their heads, and those who do not. That is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Chicago, showboating in a pool match with local civil rights leader Al Raby. And no, this isn't one of those photo ops where a public figure poses with a prop to look like regular folk. King was a hell of a pool player -- he took up the game in college almost 20 years earlier.

At age 13, I can remember well watching this historic event on TV!! Man Walks on the Moon; Neil Armstrong, 1969. Living in Huntsville, Alabama.... AKA The Rocket City, we were very much a part of America's Space Travel years.
Man Walks on the Moon; Neil Armstrong, 1969 Neil Armstrong snapped this image of fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin during the first human trip to land on the Moon. It became a testament to American innovation and dedication. I watched from the couch at my stepgrands home in Back Bay Boston.
