But Lawless and Fox discovered another interesting correlation, one between political aspiration and sports. More men than women – 74% compared to 41% — played on a college or intramural team and, for both, playing sports was correlated with political aspirations. The figure shows that running for office had “crossed the minds: of 44% of women who played sports and 35% who hadn’t. The numbers for men were 63% and 55% respectively.

"Noisy" and "Pink and Noisy": Do Men have a Gender? (thanks @day_jess) "Male"/"masculine" is often seen as the cultural default, "unmarked," and therefore as gender-neutral. However, this is not altogether true.

Positive body image
This is so true - sorry for the curse word!
Real Women Have Bodies Many women out there would love to have the hourglass figure of Aphrodite or Marilyn Monroe or Natalie Wood. But as only eight percent of women have the genetic wiring for that famous hourglass ratio (at least according to Wikipedia), it's safe to say most women in the world aren't so much hourglass as pint glass, test tube and everything in between
Marilyn Monroe is often held up as the antidote to the idea that only thin can be beautiful. “Marilyn was a size 10/12/14,” goes a common refrain (though sizing basically means nothing these days, so what does that even prove?). There have been a couple Marilyn Monroe memes floating around Facebook in the past couple months, and both are troubling. The focus is on Marilyn’s curves, and how her swimsuit clad body is different from what movie stars look like today (oh, the tyranny of the “Best Beach Bodies!” issue). What’s supposed to be an empowering message to women – you don’t have to be a Victoria’s Secret model to be beautiful – is completely undermined by two much older memes: divide and conquer and the male gaze.

MUST READ: The Kissing Sailor, or “The Selective Blindness of Rape Culture” - The TRUTH, spoken by the woman in the photo.
This woman was apparently not being romantically kissed all those years ago. She was being sexually assaulted by a man she had never even seen before. She struggled against him, but he was stronger than her. Ever since this picture has been a romantic icon, because people didn't realize what it was. THIS is rape culture.
..I read the factual account of this photo, looked closely at the photo again, ..and it became clear that this was not the sweet & romantic moment I had once thought it to be. She was sexually assaulted!
Sexual assault. Not romance. The reality behind the "iconic" photo: "That man was very strong. I wasn't kissing him. He was kissing me." It's said that men fear women will laugh at them. Women fear men will kill them. Feminism is about equality, about eradicating the fear that simply because of your sex, you are a target.

I love this. I had to scroll through rows and rows of pictures of female feminists after searching for "feminist" before finding a picture of this man. Why is feminism still seen as being relevant only to women? I like to think we've come pretty far since the first feminist movement, but realizing how rare pictures like this are makes me see that we still have so much work to do!

Quote on girls and boys
Feminism isn't just about women. It's about equality at the core of it. It's about challenging gender roles and their use to oppress people.
[Feminism] Every Girl / Every Boy
Men. Women. Boys. Girls. We all face oppression because of our genders. It's up to us to liberate everyone. We all have our own battles to fight, but this is a fight that touches too many people. Let's fight it together. Equality. #femenism #feminism
