But Lawless and Fox discovered another interesting correlation, one between political aspiration and sports. More men than women – 74% compared to 41% — played on a college or intramural team and, for both, playing sports was correlated with political aspirations. The figure shows that running for office had “crossed the minds: of 44% of women who played sports and 35% who hadn’t. The numbers for men were 63% and 55% respectively.

The problem with the Marilyn meme. Analysis.

beauty body image
The text herein is more important than the image: Marilyn Monroe is often held up as the antidote to the idea that only thin can be beautiful. “Marilyn was a size 10/12/14,” goes a common refrain (though sizing basically means nothing these days, so what does that even prove?). There have been a couple Marilyn Monroe memes floating around Facebook in the past couple months, and both are troubling. The focus is on Marilyn’s curves, and how her swimsuit clad body is different from what movie stars look like today (oh, the tyranny of the “Best Beach Bodies!” issue). What’s supposed to be an empowering message to women – you don’t have to be a Victoria’s Secret model to be beautiful – is completely undermined by two much older memes: divide and conquer and the male gaze.
Society and the media portrays beauty as anything above a size 12 UK, being plus size. Real women have curves and its time the media gives attention to a healthy women, not women who starve themselves because of societys distorted view.
Truth. I will never make it a goal to be a stick. Having soft curves is part of being a real woman. It's healthy, attractive, and strong. :)

The real TRUTH of it
"Talk to old people, they know cool stuff you don't" -- "Talk to young people, they know cool stuff you don't"
I don't know how I feel about the idea of reincarnation but I believe I am an old soul. Growing up, I always preferred being around older people as opposed to people my own age. I enjoy learning about the past to better my future.
Community spirit and inter-generational working are key components of #WhoseShoes? core values! - Love these t-shirts and the philosophy is true. Story telling and sharing is great for engagement.

Normalization of rape culture

This picture captures society's love affair with rape culture! If you think this is a romantic and patriotic iconic photo reassess yourself, please, & read. As a child I inherently felt there was something wrong in this image as all adored it and crammed it down my adolescent throat in elementary HIStory books and national holiday television specials. Still romanticizing? Congratulations, you are a rape culture advocate.
who knew this was sexual assault.. All this time we thought this was a romantic, consensual picture!
Sexual assault. Not romance. The reality behind the "iconic" photo: "That man was very strong. I wasn't kissing him. He was kissing me." It's said that men fear women will laugh at them. Women fear men will kill them. Feminism is about equality, about eradicating the fear that simply because of your sex, you are a target.

I love this. I had to scroll through rows and rows of pictures of female feminists after searching for "feminist" before finding a picture of this man. Why is feminism still seen as being relevant only to women? I like to think we've come pretty far since the first feminist movement, but realizing how rare pictures like this are makes me see that we still have so much work to do!
