Gloria Swanson, 1921; 1920s fashion
Gloria Swanson, from 1921. Gloria became the quintessential Hollywood glamour girl of the 1920s, appearing in many of Cecil B. DeMille's films as a rich young thing or society woman, often disappointed with her life and world. Like many, she slipped as the years went by, but Sunset Boulevard, which cast her (in a sense) in the role of her life, revitalized her career.

Style Icon: Zelda Fitzgerald (Plus, Zelda Paper Dolls and a Giveaway!)
Two flawed people: F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald~ Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald was the muse of the Jazz Age. She was the embodiment of all things modern and new, the prototype for every flapper to follow. She met and married the prophet of the Roaring Twenties, F. Scott Fitzgerald. Zelda was Scott’s personal inspiration, the model for almost every fictional heroine he created.
One of the best-known couples of the 1920s, Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald were one of the golden couples of the Jazz Age. Scott called Zelda “the first American flapper” and the couple seemed to embody the Roaring Twenties. They were the toast of New York and Paris, and infamous for their tempestuous marriage. Although there’s little doubt that they did care deeply for each other, their marriage was a rat king of jealousy and resentment and maybe some cruelty, with Scott going

Josephine Baker (1906-1975), an American-born French dancer and actress, became a star in Paris during the 1920s. Famous for dancing in a skirt of bananas, her exotic beauty generated the nicknames "Black Venus," "Black Pearl" and "Creole Goddess." She used her fame to spy for her adopted country during WWII and made great contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.

Myrna Darby - Photo by Alfred Cheney Johnston “Born in Pittsburgh, Myrna Darby, appeared in six Ziegfeld productions—“No Foolin’,” “Rio Rita,” “Follies of 1927,” “Rosalie,” “Three Muskateers,” and “Whoopee”—before her death from an inflammation of the heart at age 21. She fell ill during the run of “Whoopee” and though one of the highest paid showgirls in New York, left an estate of only $750. Strikingly photogenic, she was one of the most photographed of the Ziegfeld girls in the 1920s.
