Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, led by the Barbados-born, Bronx-raised Joseph Saddler, have the distinction of being the first hip-hop act to gain Rock Hall honors. Besides being known for their biggest hit, 'The Message,' they're credited with coining the term 'hip-hop.' The group split up in the early '80s. Besides Grandmaster Flash (bottom front), the group included Cowboy, Melle Mel, Kid Creole, Rahiem and Scorpio.
