How's this for a water feature? With a backyard like this, who needs to get away for summer vacation?!

I've been thinking of adding a water feature in my yard - it really helps to cancel out noise from the street. This one is really a show stopper.

I have a pond and it leaks. It actually has a waterfall. What will seal it so I don't have to tear it out.

Feathered friends have the perfect spot to take a dip and enjoy the scenery. This is gorgeous!

Yay or Nay? Is this landscape too over-the-top or is it perfect for this cottage home? Tell us what you think!

Gorgeous red. It really stands out. I have huge concrete step now and I love them, but unfortunately they were damaged a few weeks ago when we got the snow and ice. I put salt on them, not realizing it would cause damage. Now the beauty of my front is ruined. At least until I figure out how to fix the look of the steps. Any ideas?

Draught tolerant grass is in my future. St Augustine is too much effort. Maybe a Buffalo grass..

Installing a rain barrel directly under a downspout is one of the more efficient methods to harvest rainwater. I love the brass spout on this one too! What do you think?

Here in Alaska there is a high risk of forest fire. They recommend a defensible space around your house of 30 feet. At least we don't have to worry about the heat!

Kat - adding a little hydrogen peroxide to your water for seedlings keeps them strong and disease free!

  • Terry Riley
    Terry Riley

I am not sure what causes it, but I can promise you I make it happen every year. It is when the seedlings die off and I think from too much moisture or watering.

  • Terry Riley
    Terry Riley

Hydrogen Peroxide, what an awesome valuable tip!!!! I have such trouble with seedlings.

  • Laurie March
    Laurie March

Terry - try the hydrogen peroxide - my seedlings were crazy strong this year! the soil might get a little white on top - but that's ok... it's from the hydrogen perox.

  • Terry Riley
    Terry Riley

Thanks! I am definitely going to try it even tomorrow! I have been itching to get started but usually have to wait to direct sow everything, because I am so bad at the seedling starts. I am going to give it a shot.
