A new favorite creature in space + everyplace- Tardigrade! 'This little critter is known as a water bear or a #Tardigrade. In 2008 they were the first #animal demonstrated to be able to survive the vacuum of space. They are virtually indestructible survive being blasted w radiation, intense pressures & years of desiccation. Specimens were launched into #space by Swedish scientists & they returned unharmed after 8 days. #microscopic #microbiota #survivor #creature #curiosity #strange #weird

Tardigrades (also called water bears) are teeny little animals that can survive in the vacuum of space. They are found pretty much everywhere (not surprising given how virtually indestructible they are).

New information reveals that chemical contaminants, some linked to plastics, are being absorbed by sperm whales. Plastic has the ability to degrade into smaller and smaller pieces that attract and adsorb surrounding toxins such as DDTs. When mistaken as food by smaller animals, the toxic plastic pieces can bioaccumulate and move up the food chain as larger and larger animals consume them. Killing whales, fish and birds! STOP using single-use plastic bags!

A monster? An alien? Nope, this is a macroscopic image of a Polychaete, or bristle worm. They can survive intense sea pressures and some live around deep sea vents, miles below the surface.
