Lucchino Visconti's "Senso" (1954) starring Alida Valli and Farley Granger. The story is set in Italy in Spring of 1866 during the last month of Austrian occupation. The first third is set in Venice, the rest in Aldeno and Verona. The film opens in the La Fenice opera house with a performance of Il Trovatore. By the help of this opening scene La Fenice was rebuilt in 19th-century style after (for the second time in its history) it was completely destroyed by fire in 1996.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). Small part filmed in Venice, Riva degli Schiavoni and Campo San Barnaba. - The search for the Grail takes Indy to Venice, where he finds a clue in the library, which in reality is the Church of San Barnaba, in Dorsoduro district, across the Canal Grande from St Mark’s (the church is open to public). Campo San Barnaba by the way is also the spot where Katherine Hepburn fell into the canal in David Lean's Summertime (Summer Madness).

Casino Royale (2006) - Shooting locations in Venice: Piazza San Marco with St Mark's Basilica, St Mark's Campanile, Venetian Lagoon and Grand Canal with Rialto Bridge and Santa Maria della Salute. BTW the venerable luxury hotel with the spectacular view of Piazza San Marco doesn't exist in Venice. In reality it's Prague's Národní Muzeum. The palazzo which appears to collapse into the Canal Grande, however, does (still) exist. You'll find it opposite the Rialto's vegetable market.
