Indepence Rock was a landmark on the Oregon, Califonia and Mormon Trails. It is located in Natrona County, Wyoming. Indepndence rock got its name because many of the traveler that came to oregon attempted to reach the rock before July 4 or Indepence day. This would ensure that if they reached the rock by this date, they would not have to deal with snow as the traveled through the mountains.
