Although Alan & Dora wanted an industrial look for the Flint Mill, but instead of opting for an all metal staircase they chose one with wood and black iron, so as to compliment the balance of both materials throughout the house. Here's a good example of how it can look...
skylight feature over stair - This dreamy New York loft (listed at $ 19.5M) was designed by renowned Architect Michael Haverland.
SKYLIGHT. cascading steel + walnut stair delineated by a concrete wall loft conversion from NY's oldest concrete parking structure. STUNNING.
Designed by architect Michael Haverland this unique loft interior design in New York incorporates all the right ingredients for a modern, yet comfortable industrial style. Wood, concrete, glass, metal, massive factory style windows, tall ceilings, open plan, major space ... sublime, right? The staircase makes quite a statement and the colorful fixtures and furniture really brighten things up. That smooth white sink (or tub...?) which sits in the rough grey concrete is really stunning - the walnut shelves generate some warmth to create the perfect mood. image credit: Evan Joseph, Eliot Kauffman, Carl Wooley.
Love the skylight with the stairs, but not theses stairs specifically
well lit and vented stairs. all staircases should have a skylight
Stairway skylight to upstairs loft. Stairs are cool too.
Jagged staircases, interesting architectural feature
Loving the stairway skylight and large windows.
