Taken on the beach of Hilongos, Leyte, in the Philippines in 2000. This is a fisherman with a difference as he specialises in catching the fry, in the shallow beach waters, of fish that are farmed, like Bangus (milkfish).

On the left is a picture taken in around 1930 of my mother, when she was probably about 4 years old in her home town of Hilongos on the coast of rural Leyte, the Philippines. The print was in quite a bad state so I am pleased about the clean-up job I did. I only discovered this picture just before my mother's 80th birthday, so it was a nice surprise for her during her 80th celebrations. I entered this in the DPNow Salon contest a while back, which had the theme of 'Timeless'.

Leyte Landing Memorial in Red Beach, Palo, near Tacloban City, Leyte, the Philippines, where General MacArthur famously landed, so fulfilling is promise to return and liberate the Philippines from the Japanese in World War II. I thought the perspective would be interesting with Elizabeth, my eldest daughter, stood to the right, viewing the memorial figures.

This was taken early in the morning at the market place in Hilongos, Leyte. The one on the right burst into tears seconds after this shot was taken!
