Ilford films, based in Ilford, Essex, adopted a strong brand identity developed by Milner Gray and the DRU. the colours helped identify types of film - and I recall the boxes, stacked in shop shelves, being so obvious and bold - everyone an advert that helped promote the actual overall company identity.

I don't go after too many candy pieces that are pre-1950's, but there are some that I really dig, oftentimes due to them being early examples of iconic brands. This is certainly an example of that. Though I cannot be certain of the vintage of this box, I'm confident it's from the 1930's era. Though this early logo is scripted, the basic box colors remain the same that they would be for decades.
