Growing up, my parents weren't there for me, so I learned to be incredibly self-reliant. My back was always against the wall, and there's only me for me. As a grown-up, this self-reliance has served me well, but at times, it made my life much harder than it has to be. People are happy to help - sometimes we just have to ask. We don't always have to be the strong one and carry all the load alone.
