The binturong is a large, rare mammal that lives in trees in the dense forests of southeast Asia. The binturong is also often called a bearcat because it looks like both a bear and a cat. Bearcats are not bears, nor are they cats. They are related to civets and genets and they live in the rainforest. They are nocturnal and they chuckle when they are happy!

This is a Bearcat ( Arctitis binturong ) or known as Binturong in Malay. It is the largest of all Malaysian civet. Found in South East Asia through the Sunda Islands to the Phillipines. The fur is shaggy and almost black and there are tufts of hair on the ears. The binturong lives in forest and climbs well, and it can hang by its tail which is fully prehensile. It eat fruits and also catch reptiles and other small animals.

The binturong lives up to its name, a bear’s face on a cat’s body, with a scent straight out of a movie theater.
