Validating environments are supportive ones. They are where kids learn their value and worth and feel seen & heard. On the flipside, invalidating environments breed a sense of loss, limited self-identity, and shame (Linehan, 1993). Emotional Validation
Emotional validation doesn’t mean agreement. Instead, it’s communicating understanding to our partner―that there is some part of their view or position that makes sense to us, that we can validate. e.g. “I get that you feel like I don’t respect you. That’s frustrating.” “I know things have been hard, and you don’t really feel like yourself. I understand.” “You walked away to keep things from escalating. I get that. Let’s talk when you’re ready, and we’ll make sure you’re comfortable as we go

Stop Trying to Fix Your Partner’s Feelings, Connect with Them Instead
Feelings are valid, regardless of if they are positive, negative, or directed specifically at you or your actions. Trying to "fix" your partners feelings is a surefire way to isolate them and create distance within your relationship. Instead, try and take time to understand those feelings--where they are coming from and why. Are you a bit hesitant on how to do that? I explain exactly what needs to be done and why in my article. Take a moment to read it now! . . . #connection #relationships

Invalidating vs. validating responses
Validation is a fundamental relationship skill. As humans, we want to feel seen, understood, and appreciated. This comes - in large part - from validation which involves recognising and accepting someone else’s feelings. To practice validation start by: 👍Being fully present with the person 👍Accurately reflect on what you’ve seen or heard to show the other person that you’ve listened and understood. 👍Ask clarifying questions 👍Normalise their emotional reaction and meet it with compassion.
