According to KSDK-TV, a report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the vehicle contained two St. Louis police probation officers, both new on the force. According to police, the driver overcorrected because he "believed he was traveling too close to a parked car,” causing him to lose control of the vehicle and smash into the bar. Pence told local outlets including Fox 2, however, that the officer initially said he had swerved to avoid hitting a dog.
