About Pelle Sten Pelle Sten was born in Helsingborg, Sweden, 1974. He is a self-taught photgrapher who started shooting metal and punk bands in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. We all know how amazing subway graffiti was in the 1970's.  Many of the graffiti artists from that era went on to become established artists showing in galleries.  However, the graffiti which appeared on the inside was usually a ugly mess.  Scribbles of foul words in drab red or black ink, it made the subway seem even more ominous than it really was. For anyone who doesn't live here, you should know that the subway is synonymous with New York. Millions of us ride it every single day, and we complain about it to each other just as often. Besides walking, it's the main method of transportation in this city. Well, the 70's weren't kind to the subway, or to most of us.
