"Style of dress of the Rococo period (1730 - 1789). Distinctive for its whimsicality, asymmetry, fineness of detail and lightness; its ornate beauty was accentuated further by its use of fabrics. The most common fabrics used in ladies' and men's clothing were satins, atlases, brocades and lace, typically in pastel shades." (http://en.texsite.info/Fashion_of_the_rococo_period)

Marie-Antoinette's estate - THE QUEEN’S RESIDENCE From the Petit Trianon to the Queen’s Gardens, passing by the Hamlet, the Estate, opened in 2006, reveals Marie-Antoinette’s private life. Louis XVI’s wife loved this place where she could return to the pleasures of simple, rural pursuits, away from the pomp of Versailles. The Petit Trianon and its park are indissociably linked to the memory of Queen Marie-Antoinette. She is the only queen to have imposed her personal taste on Versailles.

Baroque Periodic, Woman Fashion, Rococo Fashion, Darker Colors, Art, 18Th Century, Mary Antoinette, Victorian Dresses, Rococo Style
The Rococo fashion was meant to resemble grace and lightness. The previous Baroque period consisted darker colors and heavier clothing and drapes. However, the Rococo period was curvier, opulent, and graceful. Women's fashion, for example, was wide, ruffled, opened at the chest, and very embellished on the hair.
The Rococo style of art emerged in France in the early 18th century. It is characterized by opulence, grace, playfulness, and lightness in contrast to the heavier themes and darker colors of the earlier Baroque period.

Madame Pompadour by Boucher~ Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, also known as Madame de Pompadour (29 December 1721 – 15 April 1764, was a member of the French court and was the official chief mistress of Louis XV from 1745 to her death. She was trained from childhood to be a mistress, and learned her trade well. She took charge of the king’s schedule and was an indispensable aide and advisor, despite her frail health and many political enemies. She secured titles of nobility for herself and her relatives, and built a network of clients and supporters. She paid careful attention not to alienate the Queen, Marie Leszczyńska.
Francois Boucher (1703-70) Portrait of the Marquise de Pompadour: A protege of Madame de Pompadour, the French Rococo artist Francois Boucher was the leading, French painter of the early to mid 18th century.
