Evening Cape 1925 Designer: Paul Poiret / Raoul Dufy (textile)
Began Design, 1920 S, The Artists, Kyoto Costumes, Met Paul, Capes Paul, Costumes Institut, 1920S, Paul Poiret
Evening Cape Paul Poiret: The design of the artist, Raoul Dufy, is depicted on this one, large piece of cloth, realized by the Bianchini-Ferier company. Dufy, who had been working to become an artist, met Paul Poiret and began designing textiles. He left many textile works, and was a pioneer of artist-designed textiles. Aiming for the crossover of art and fashion, Poiret unsparingly offered assistance to young artists and stressed interaction between them. Kyoto Costume Institute

Spain- Flamenco dancer. Love the movement of her fringed shawl. Fierce yet contained energy.
#2B The origin of the flamenco dress can be traced to Andalusian women, a region in southern Spain.Spanish flamenco dresses provide an important visual element to flamenco shows. The custom incorporates an important part of cultural identity. The dress is figure-hugging, ankle length, with ruffles in both the layered skirt and the sleeves. The most common colors for flamenco dresses are red, black and white but they are typically bright colored.

Spanish flamenco dancer, the passion and the moment, and oh, the flounces! (The Folkwear flamenco dress has three rows of flouncing. I see 10 on the front of the dress alone; more on the train.)

Shawl1885-1910The Metropolitan Museum of Art“The embroidery on this Chinese shawl is unique in its imagery and level of animation, especially in the realistic depiction of birds and their actions (eating insects, for example). Other atypical details include fruit (pineapples and grapes) and fanciful insects and plant pods. Most of the embroidery is executed in a standard satin stitch but the tails of the grey birds are done in a fine herringbone stitch that imitates the texture of feathers. The fretwork along the border is an unusual touch for shawls made for the Western market.”
