CURLA Demo Center, Honduras

In 1996 the Inga Foundation planted 2 ha of demonstration Inga alleys at the University of CURLA, in the city below Pico Bonito National Park where we work. Lack of funds meant the alleys have been neglected since 2002 however last year we found the funds necessary to replant and restore them. They are now recovering well and will soon become a valuable resource both for teaching and scientific research.
This new info board at the demo site describes the experiment we will be carrying out with CURLA University over the next few years, involving 4 different types of crop and 4 different soil nutrients.

Some of the CURLA have now recovered to the point where they are starting to develop a closed canopy again. This is an essential part of the Inga system as it shades out the weeds and grasses on the ground below ready for crops to be planted.
