I tell all my patients this at physical therapy! Homemade Ice packs: 1 part rubbing alcohol to 3 parts water, gets really cold, but never hardens so you can manipulate it. every athlete (or mom) should pin this!
I'm pinning it because it really DOES work. Like gangbusters. Eucalyptus oil on the bottom of the feet (and I put a few drops on the pillow, for good measure), and coughs are GONE. My hacking, waking-up-every-half-hour-asthmatic baby girl is currently sound asleep, thanks to this. Do it.
