Memorial to Louis XVI & Marie Antoinette ~ by E. Gaulle & P. Petitot - St Denis Basilica, burial place of nearly every French king from 10th-18th c. During the Revolution, bodies were removed, dumped in large pits & dissolved with lime (Marie & Louis had been buried at La Madeleine). In 1815 meager remains of Louis & Marie (reputedly) were returned. In 1817 the mass graves were opened & co-mingled remains placed in an ossuary in St. Denis - marble plates list the 100s of names.
