Seljuk Turkish 1037-1194

artist Mirza Aga Imami. This is a great example of a work of art in a style that was popular centuries before. At first glance, all the details, the layout and the style look Safavid Persian. But the artist lived from 1881 to 1955. This is similar to 'neo-classical' works in Europe that deliberately recreate the style of Imperial Rome well into the 19th century. The 'pre-Raphaelites' are another example of artists deliberately creating work that echoes a 'golden age'.

Abdulcelil Levni (died 1732) was an Ottoman court painter and miniaturist. He was born in Edirne in the late 17th century. He became the most prominent painter in the Ottoman Empire. He composed masterpieces: the Surname-i Sultan Ahmed Han and the Surname-i Vehbi ("Book of Festival").He loved painting single-leaved miniatures depicting individuals: beautiful girls, languidly reclining ladies, and charming young men.~ we love Levni! we love history! www.armadaistanbul.com

Lovers Observed by a Youth Leaf from the Read Persian Album. Persia, ca.. 1630, by Muḥammad Yūsuf al-Ḥusainī. The Morgan Museum cites the triangular diadem as the sign of a married woman. I've not heard this before.

Look at the hat. Is that a standard taj/diadem or is that a pillbox with a veil partially covering it? I also think this is the only example of a striped pirihan/undergown that I've ever seen.
