Warrior II Pose (Virabhadrasana II)-Note the external rotation of the upper thighs in this warrior pose of readiness, contrasting the internal hip rotation of Warrior I, the shape of preparation to launch/attack..
The roots of Warrior II pose... "right knee directly above heal- shin vertical, front thigh parallel to floor. Move front knee out slightly, in line with little toe. Press back foot down. Straighten and strengthen back leg. Tighten glutes, press tailbone down"

Virabhadrasana II: Warrior II Pose | Gaiam -The forward movement created by flexing the front hip and knee is balanced by a line of action through the back leg and heel that anchors the foot to the floor. Activate the tibialis anterior and posterior to dorsiflex and invert the back foot. Then press the outer heel into the mat and activate the quadriceps to straighten the knee. Contract the gluteus medius by attempting to drag the rear foot away from the front, abducting the femur. . .

Yoga Mat - Using a yoga mat, my favorite stretches to perform are the couch stretch, pigeon pose and a deep runner’s lunge which all target my hip flexors, glutes, hamstrings and quadriceps muscles.
The pigeon #stretch is done on the floor or on a yoga mat. You need to bring your affected leg in front of you with a bent knee and bent hip. The unaffected leg should be stretched straight out behind you. The benefit of this stretch over the supine one is that you will get a much deeper opening of the piriformis muscle—great for those of you who already stretch a little now. Further, the hip flexors of the unaffected side also get stretched in pigeon, making it a great all around hip opener.
