Regrow roses!!! "My neighbor has a row of roses, which he took as cuttings. I asked how he took them. He simply plunges the cuttings into the ground. But his secret of success is the humble potato! Before planting cuttings, he pushes the bottom end into a small potato, which he believes keeps the cuttings moist as they develop roots. It sounds crazy, but his row of allotment roses is proof it works." (quote from link)
Nice to know: "Plants have best friends just like people do. Marigolds help tomatoes and roses grow better. Nasturtiums keep bugs away from squash and broccoli. Petunias protect beans from beetles and oregano chases them away from cucumbers. Geraniums keep Japanese beetles away from roses and corn. Chives make carrots sweeter, and basil makes tomatoes even tastier"
bury a banana peel 1" down at the base of a rosebush. The potassium will feed the plant and help it fight of diseases. ***Use banana peels, egg shells, coffee grounds and crushed Tums with calcium when planting tomatoes 5-9-12.
Pinner said: When I was in the Master Gardener program we used the water crystals in planters and I knew it was the same thing in diapers, but it never crossed my mind to put a diaper in the bottom of one. Someone else said, "The trick to amazing potted plants - diapers. I did this in my hanging baskets last year and they rocked all season."
Worm Tower - Drill lots of holes in a pvc pipe (or buy a predrilled piece of drain pipe). Bury all but 6 inches in garden. Place kitchen scraps in the hole. Worms will come in and eat and then transfer the "goodies" throughout the garden.
