BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I start my summer garden in December and January, using a neat trick called “Winter-Sowing.” Winter-sowing is an outdoor method of seed germination (invented by Trudi Davidoff) which requires just two things: miniature greenhouses (made from recycled milk jugs) and Mother Nature. You can winter-sow your way to a beautiful garden, too…for pennies. Here’s how:

Fabric basket tutorial. Make with landscape fabric for container plants. Water drains better than other types of containers, and the roots have more air which enhances growth. A package of landscape fabric is about $5, at least when I bought mine at Ocean State Job Lot.

It's the Tormato!! And it's going to make your tomato growing experience a lot easier, and quite a bit more interesting. It's cheap, easy, and fun to make! It is made of 1 1/4 inch PVC, and 1/2 inch PEX tubing. It's primary uses is to replace those wretched tomato cages, but it can be used as a trellis system, and a nutrient delivery system!

remember....Borax ant bait. Borax is the most common ingredient in house ant control products, and get this: it's absolutely 100% natural. The best way (in my opinion) to use Borax is to mix 1 cup of warm water with 1/2 cup of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of Borax. Then soak the Borax mixture up with cotton balls and place those cotton balls near any trails the ants have established in your home. Feeding frenzy... tomorrow they'll be gone. I knew there had to be a way to do this naturally!
