Did you know that breakouts on different parts of your face can actually be an indication that a particular part of your body needs more attention? This is cool!
Health Problems, Respiratory System, Faces Maps, Junk Food, Food Allergies, Break Outs, Herbal Teas, Cut Outs, Step Up
I always knew that the once-monthly spots that overtook my chin were the result of not-so-stable hormones. However, when my dermatologist took one look at the sudden outcrop of angry zits on my nose and asked me to get my blood pressure checked, it introduced me to a whole new (actually old) science of face mapping, which is pretty much the key to unlocking the mysteries behind problem skin. Face mapping, which is fast taking centre stage at most clinics nowadays, combines Ayurveda and ancient Chinese medicine with cutting edge dermatologists’ prescriptions to explain how certain parts of your face are connected to other areas of your body. Put simply, think of your face as a map and blemishes as X’s on that landscape. Spots in different zones correspond to different problems. So, with this “map” as your guide, you can address the underlying causes of blemishes and not only make the unsightly zits vanish but also treat the underlying health problem in time. Pretty awesome, right? Try it out: Here is how to decode breakouts in the basic areas. 1 & 2: Digestive System —Eat less processed or junk food, reduce the amount of fat in your diet, step up water intake and opt for cooling things like cucumbers. 3: Liver —Cut out the alcohol, greasy food and dairy. This is the zone where food allergies also show up first, so take a look at your ingredients. Besides all this, do 30 minutes of light exercise every day and get adequate sleep so your liver can rest. 4 & 5: Kidneys —Anything around the eyes (including dark circles) point to dehydration. Drink up! 6: Heart —Check your blood pressure (mine was slightly high) and Vitamin B levels. Decrease the intake of spicy or pungent food, cut down on meat and get more fresh air. Besides this, look into ways to lower cholesterol, like replacing “bad fats” with “good fats” such as Omegas 3 and 6 found in nuts, avocados, fish and flax seed. Also, since this area is chock-full of dilated pores, check that your makeup is not past its expiry date or is skin-clogging. 7 & 8: Kidneys —Again, drink up! And cut down on aerated drinks, coffee and alcohol as these will cause further dehydration. Zone 9 & 10: Respiratory system —Do you smoke? Have allergies? This is your problem area for both. If neither of these is the issue, don’t let your body overheat, eat more cooling foods, cut down on sugar and get more fresh air. Also keep the body more alkaline by avoiding foods that make the body acidic (meat, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, sugar) and adding more alkalizing foods like green veggies and wheatgrass juice. Another thing that most of forget – dirty cell phones and pillow cases are two of the top acne culprits and this area is what they affect the most! Zone 11 & 12: Hormones —This is the signature zone for stress and hormonal changes. And while both are sometimes unavoidable, you can decrease their effect by getting adequate sleep, drinking enough water, eating leafy veggies and keeping skin scrupulously clean. Another interesting point: breakouts in this area indicate when you are ovulating (and on which side). Zone 13: Stomach —Step up the fibre intake, reduce the toxin overload and drink herbal teas to help with digestion. 14: Illness —Zits here can be a sign that your body is fighting bacteria to avoid illness. Give it a break, take a yoga class, take a nap, take time to breathe deeply, drink plenty of water and know that everything always works out! So the next time you break out or notice dark under-eye circles, look to your face map: your skin is probably trying to communicate on behalf of the internal organs. However, do remember that, as with all medical issues, it is always best to see your doctor or dermotologist for a proper prognosis. This is just a general guide to head you off in the right investigative direction – just becuase you break out between the brows doesn’t always mean you have a bad liver!

Almond Cranberry Quinoa Cookies. Used this as a base recipe and made a few adjustments. I skipped the almonds and almond extract because I forgot the almonds at the market. Instead, I used more vanilla extract and added 2/3 a cup of white chocolate chips because I had them on hand. The cookies turned out good but a little too puffy so next time I will use less flour.

88 Unexpected Snacks Under 100 Calories by Laura Schwecherl · 26 days ago · Health 1399 Email We’ve all been there: hunger striking before the dinnertime clock, a sudden craving for something sweet, the need for a quick energy boost before working out. The solution? A small and satisfying snack that won’t tip that calorie count over the edge. The problem with snacking is when a quick nibble turns into enough calories to count as a meal, yet our list of healthy, low calorie treats to please any palate. This list is filled with sizeable options enjoyable enough to devour guilt-free without any diet damage. And while most of these snacks pack a nutritious punch, a few are clearly set out to satisfy that sweet tooth (see #23!). But hey, at 100 calories or less, it’s worth the splurge. Mini PB&F;: One fig Newton with 1 teaspoon peanut butter. Chocolate Banana: Half a frozen banana [this size] dipped in two squares of melted dark chocolate. Frozen grapes (any color): 1 cup (about 28 grapes), stuck in the freezer for 2+ hours. Honeyed Yogurt: ½ cup nonfat Greek yogurt with a dash of cinnamon and 1 teaspoon honey. Spiced Orange: One orange— about the size of a tennis ball— sprinkled with cinnamon. Grilled Pineapple: 2 ¼-inch thick pineapple rounds (about 1 cup), grilled (or sautéed) for two minutes or until golden. Berries n’ Cream: 1 cup blueberries with 2 tablespoons whipped topping. Stuffed Figs: Two small dried figs with 1 tablespoon reduced-fat ricotta stuffed inside. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Oats n’ Berries: ⅓ cup rolled oats (cooked with water), topped with cinnamon and ¼ cup fresh berries. Dark Chocolate: One block, or three squares. Nut-Stuffed Date: One Medjool Date filled with one teaspoon natural unsalted almond butter. Chocolate Milk: 6 ounces skim milk mixed with 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup. Citrus-Berry Salad: 1 cup mixed berry salad (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and/or blackberries) tossed with one tablespoon fresh-squeezed orange juice. Maple-Pumpkin Yogurt: ½ cup non-fat regular yogurt (go Greek for extra protein!) with 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree and 1 teaspoon maple syrup… like this! Chocolate Pudding: One 4oz package. Try a fat/sugar free version or a homemade one! Chocolate Covered Strawberries: Five strawberries dipped in two squares melted dark chocolate. Tropical Juice Smoothie: ¼ cup pineapple juice, orange juice, and apple juice, blended with ice. Vanilla and Banana Smoothie: ½ cup sliced banana, ¼ cup nonfat vanilla yogurt, and a handful of ice blended until smooth. MYO Banana Chips: One sliced banana dipped in lemon juice and baked. Baked Apple: One tennis ball-sized apple, cored, filled with 1 teaspoon brown sugar and cinnamon, and baked until tender. Fruity Waffles: One 7-grain frozen waffle toasted and topped with ¼ cup fresh mixed berries. Skinny S’more: Two graham crackers with one roasted marshmallow and one small square dark chocolate. Cinnamon Graham Crackers & Peanut butter: Two graham cracker squares with 1 teaspoon peanut butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Cereal and Milk: ½ cup rice krispies with ½ cup skim milk. Milk n’ Cookies: Five animal crackers with ½ cup skim milk. Warm Spiced Cider: 6 ounces apple cider with sprinkles of cinnamon and nutmeg, warmed. Citrus Sherbet: ½ cup lime sherbet (about one standard-sized ice-cream scoop) with ½ sliced kiwi. Café Latte: 8 ounces steamed skim milk with 1 shot espresso. Jelly Beans: 25 of ‘em! Although we don’t recommend these. Marshmallow Pear: ½ pear diced and topped with 1 tablespoon marshmallow fluff. Protein Shake: One scoop protein powder with 8 ounces water (choose from tasty powder flavors like cookies n’ cream and chocolate peanut butter!). M.Y.O. Popsicle: 8 ounces lemonade frozen in an ice pop mold, or use a small paper cup as a mold. Apple Chips: Munch on ¾ cup of kinds like these, or use this recipe! Cheesy Breaded Tomatoes: Two roasted plum tomatoes sliced and topped with 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. Curried Sweet Potato: One medium sweet potato (about 5 inches long) cooked for six minutes in the microwave and mashed with 1 teaspoon curry, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. “Cheesy” Popcorn: 2 cups air-popped popcorn with 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast— it’ll taste like real cheese! Cucumber Sandwich: ½ English muffin with 2 tablespoons cottage cheese and three slices of cucumber. Turkey Roll-Ups: Four slices smoked turkey rolled up and dipped in 2 teaspoons honey mustard. Mixed Olives: About 8 olives. Antipasto Plate: One Pepperocini, a ½ inch cube of cheddar cheese, one slice pepperoni, and one olive. Pumpkin Seeds: 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds, sprayed with oil (just a spritz!) and baked at for 400° for 15 minutes or until brown. Sprinkle with kosher salt.
