Align Units with Novels
Did you know that if you read a novel to your class that you could align the lesson in reading and writing workshop with the text? First identify the genre, then choose one of the 10 units that matches that genre. Pull out mini lessons that would be a good fit for each chapter or section of text and map out your lessons!

Get EVERY Student Writing!
"We're almost halfway through the launch unit. My students L😍VE writing in their notebooks. Many of them say it’s their favorite part of our day. It’s such a calm and relaxing time in our day. Even my most rambunctious kiddos are focused (most of the time 😉). There are lots of sighs and whines when I give them a warning to wrap up. They want to keep writing! I wish we had more time in our day to let them read and write as long as their little hearts desire! ♥️" -Rachel OOTWL Member

Free Week of Reading and Writing Workshop Lessons! - Out of this World Literacy
I LOVE this time-saving tip from Rachel, an OOTWL Member! Each lesson in the reading and writing workshop includes a student note-taking page that matches the whole group anchor chart for the day. This means that students can take notes as the lesson evolves and glue those notes into the mini lesson section of their readers and writers notebooks. The learning lasts ALL year and not just for 15 minutes. By the end of the year the students have a notebook full of long-term learning.

Student Note-Taking Pages
"Here’s a prep tip for the Units of Study: I copy all the graphic organizers for the week at one time and trim them for the students’ notebooks. Not having the students cut their own paper saves so much class time! I am prepped and ready to go for our short 4-day week!" -Rachel Out of This World Literacy Member
