Learning About Personal Narratives
"Today we discussed how authors reveal important information about a character to understand the author's message. I wanted to show students that no matter what book they're reading, an author always has has a purpose for writing important details about the main character. Then students went back to their desks to complete a thinkmark on finding important information about their character in their independent reading book." -Erica, Out of This World Literacy Member

What to do during independent reading time
After a whole group lesson, have students read books they've chosen independently. Students can then respond to their reading in their notebooks. During the share, students talk with a partner about what they wrote in response to their independent reading. Check out the units for both reading and writing workshops!
Free Week of Personal Narrative Lessons!
"My students are loving the personal narrative writing units of study!! I can’t believe their enthusiasm for writing and most students are writing across several pages. Even my struggling writers are connecting and working hard! I can’t wait for their finished, published pieces" -Jennifer, Out of This World Literacy Member
