Use vinegar to steam clean your rugs instead of harsh chemicals - especially with small children around. Simply replace the carpet cleaner solution with a vinegar water mixture. I like mine strong, so I use a 50/50 ratio. Vinegar kills 80% of bacteria and viruses and leaves your rugs clean like new with out using toxic chemicals. Add a little essential oil to the mix to create a scent that you like. And really, the vinegar smell is only temporary! (It's not that bad!)

1 C water, 1C vinegar, 1C isopropyl alcohol, few drops liquid soap, 10-15 drops essential oil (optional). Combine in spray bottle.
