And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! (Mat 8:24-27 KJV)

I have been trying to capture this image ever since I saw the behavior of these fish and witnessed the incredible tornado that they form during courtship.”The fish in the photo are a predatory species called Jacks and that photo was taken at the Cabo Pulmo National Park, a marine reserve in the Sea of Cortez. Praying Mantis, Mantodea (or mantises, mantes) is an order of insects that contains over 2,400 valid species. The English common name for any species in the order is "praying mantis", because of the typical "prayer-like" posture with folded fore-limbs, although the eggcorn "preying mantis" is sometimes used in reference to their predatory habits. In Europe and other regions, the name "praying mantis" refers to only a single species, Mantis religiosa.

Photograph by Julie Fletcher, honorable mention winner, 2013 National Geographic Photo Contest Launch Gallery The dramatic colors of water and sky aside, the barren landscape of Lake Menindee in New South Wales, Australia, makes a perfect setting for an electrical storm. The branches of the trees mirror the jagged bolts of lightning—and give the impression they have been through this before.
Julie Fletcher's photograph of a thunderstorm over a lake won Honorable Mention in the Places category. "I followed a massive storm front several 100 kilometers hoping to capture something special but this blew my mind," Fletcher says. Snowflakes - whilst it's statistically *possible* to find two snowflakes the same (and two were, in 1988), in reality, it's extremely unlikely. Each snowflake 'grows' from supercooled frozen cloud droplets that turn into individual ice crystals. The complex shapes of snowflakes emerge as those individual snow crystals begin to stick together as the flake moves through differing temperature and humidity zones. With so many variants at play, the likelihood of duplicate snowflakes is almost nil.

Asperatus Clouds Over New Zealand by Witta Priester, www.flickr.com/... apod.nasa: Although their cause is presently unknown, such unusual atmospheric structures, do not appear to be harbingers of meteorological doom. Known as Undulatus asperatus clouds, they can be stunning in appearance, unusual in occurrence, are relatively unstudied, and may even be a new type of cloud. Thanks to wittap for allowing us to share her amazing image! #Clouds #Undulatus_asperatus

ASPERATUS FORMATION, CANTERBURY, NEW ZEALAND Undulatus asperatus (or alternately, asperatus) is a cloud formation, proposed in 2009 as a separate cloud classification by the founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society. If successful it will be the first cloud formation added since cirrus intortus in 1951 to the International Cloud Atlas of the World Meteorological Organization. The name translates approximately as roughened or agitated waves. Photo: wittap

Undulatas asperatus cloud formation A cloud formation so rare it doesn’t even have official classification. “Undulatus asperatus” is its proposed designation, and if accepted as a new form by meteorologists, it’ll be the first such addition since 1951. As of now, it’s just another example of New Zealand having the coolest freakin’ landscapes.

Wildlife Photographer Of The Year 2013 Competition - "The Water Bear" — American Paul Souders took his Zodiac boat to Hudson Bay in Canada during mid-summer and waited patiently for this polar bear, first spotted on sea ice about 30 miles offshore, to slip into the water. - Business Insider

Credit: Paul Souders/2013 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Animals in their environment winner: The Water Bear by Paul Souders (US) The fact that most images of polar bears show them on land or ice says more about the practical difficulties faced by humans than it does about the bears’ behaviour. With adaptations such as thick blubber and nostrils that close, polar bears are, in fact, highly aquatic. They spend most of their time hunting seals on sea ice and are capable of swimming for hours at a time. Souders took his Zodiac boat to Hudson Bay, Canada, in midsummer to rectify this bias. He scouted for three days before he spotted a bear, this young female, on sea ice about 30 miles offshore. The light was special but for a sinister reason. The midnight sun was filtered through smoke from forest fires raging farther south, a symptom of the warming Arctic – the greatest threat facing the polar bear. As more and more sea ice melts earlier and earlier each spring it becomes harder for the bears to hunt the seals they depend on

Amazing photo of water spout strike Tampa bay. Florida
Pictured above is one of the better images yet recorded of a waterspout in Tampa Bay, Florida, a type of tornado that occurs over water. Waterspouts are spinning columns of rising moist air that typically form over warm water. Waterspouts can be as dangerous as tornadoes and can feature wind speeds over 200 kilometers per hour. Some waterspouts form away from thunderstorms and even during relatively fair weather.
A Waterspout near Tampa Bay, Florida | Photo: © Joey Mole | A waterspout is an intense columnar vortex that occurs over a body of water, connected to a cumuliform cloud. In the common form, it is a non-supercell tornado over water. Waterspouts do not suck up water; the water seen in the main funnel cloud is actually water droplets formed by condensation. The Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida is arguably the most active area in the world for waterspouts, with hundreds forming each year.
