Our blessed mother!!
1417. She did not get a good look at those paintings, but her impression was: they must be religious pictures because they were similar to the paintings hanging in some of the rooms of the church next door to her school. The museum made a deep impression on Agnes but most of all the locked room containing the paintings she was not allowed to see.

New artist to me, but this is beautiful. The stark lines of the cathedral against the softness of the portrait... Jan van Eyck, "Madonna in the Church". 1437-9. Northern Renaissance. oil on wood
Jan van Eyck, "Madonna in the Church". 1437-9. Northern Renaissance. oil on wood. Gemaldegalerie, Berlin, Germany.
The name of this painting is, "Madonna in the Church". It was painted in 1437-9 by Jan Van Eyck. This painting is signifacant because it is showing the Virgin Mary holding her son, Jesus in the Gothic Cathedral. Marry is presented as the Queen of Heaven. I like the idea of making Mary larger than the objects surronding her, making her the main subject in the painting. I also like how Jan made it look like the sun was shinning through the windows of the cathedral, making it lighter.

The Helpful Art Teacher: The Artist's journey...Something to think about
Pablo Picasso was an accomplished artist at the age of 13 as you can see in this artwork, "First Communion," (1896). So my question to those who think his modern art is ridiculous, well, what else was he to do after the age of 13? More formal, academic art? No, he now had the right to explore art for art sake! That is exactly what Picasso did and to better understand his art you have to be able to separate yourself from stuffy academia and formal protocol. Picasso once said, "It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child."

The Madonna of Bruges is a marble sculpture by Michelangelo, of Mary with the infant Jesus. It was the only sculpture by Michelangelo to leave Italy during his lifetime. It was bought by Giovanni and Alessandro Moscheroni (Mouscron), from a family of wealthy cloth merchants in Bruges, then one of the leading commercial cities in Europe. The sculpture was sold for 4,000 florin.
