Philippe Halsman - Portrait of Jean Cocteau, "When a work appears to be ahead of its time, it is only the time that is behind the work." Jean Maurice Eugène Clément Cocteau (5 July 1889 – 11 October 1963) was a French poet, novelist, dramatist, designer, playwright, artist and filmmaker. Cocteau is best known for his novel Les Enfants terribles (1929), and the films Blood of a Poet (1930), Les Parents terribles (1948), Beauty and the Beast (1946), and Orpheus (1949).

“Most people stiffen with self-consciousness when they pose for a photograph. Lighting and fine camera equipment are useless if the photographer cannot make them drop the mask, at least for a moment, so he can capture on his film their real, undistorted personality and character. ” — Philippe Halsman

Portrait of Jean Cocteau by Man Ray. Man Ray was a pioneer of surreal photography. His layering of images and play with exposure and development, resulted in composed images / realities.
1948, Portrait of Jean Cocteau (with multiple hands) “The greatest masterpiece in literature is only a dictionary out of order.” (Jean Cocteau) Before the age of Photoshop, there was Philippe Halsman. His dynamic and imaginative photography broke the rules of the day by going against the soft focus style of the time and giving sharp focus to his subjects.

Rock Sculpture, Peter O'Toole, Rocks Pebbles, Painted Stones, Sticks Stones Hearts, Landart, Peter Randall, Garden, Art Stones
Peter Randall- I like how he did the opposite to some of his others and the main art was on the inside I like how the outside is like a rock it when you see the inside it is like a giant fossil but with a perfect pattern.
Peter Randall- I really love this as its like a puzzle because the two picks fit together and as I love how the rocks look very naturally,
Peter Randall, page. This sculpture is very different as it is carved out of rock. I think that the continuos lines give the sculpture an ongoing look, much like a human. I think that the squiggly lines resemble the path of life as it is all in order however there are lots of turns and you wouldn't be able to see what is coming up, if you where to be standing in the indents. Also I think that the detail being on the inside gives a feel of protection and also them being a pair gives the sculpture a complete look.

Photographer Antoine Geiger visualizes how technology is grabbing all of our attention.
Face, Transparent Eyeball
Our eyes are all-too-often glued to our phones and we miss what’s going on in the world around us. The alluring and tempting images light up the screen, grabbing hold of our gaze as we’re powerless to look away. French photographer Antoine Geiger has visualized this parasitic relationship in his series called SUR-FAKE. In each of his compelling compositions, a phone and face are fused into one, as its user is absorbed into the illuminated device. Geiger views the phone as an object that alie...
