Love Anthony - Lisa Genova. BEAUTIFUL! I love her style of writing. I had a son... and although he had Down Syndrome - not Autism... I very much related to these characters. We lost our son pretty quickly as well... short 6 weeks after a leukemia diagnosis. My marriage is surviving, but I get why so many don't.

The Road from Home: The Story of an Armenian Girl during the 1915 Genocide of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire. Read this when I was a young girl; it's the first in a series. This read is an important addition to a curriculum which includes a study of the Holocaust.
The Road From Home: A True Story of Courage, Survival and Hope by David Kherdian - the true story of Kherdian's mother during the early 1900's when the Turkey government tried to destroy the Armenian people (genocide)
David Kherdian re-creates his mother's voice in telling the true story of a childhood interrupted by one of the most devastating holocausts of our century. Vernon Dumehjian Kherdian was born into a loving and prosperous family. Then, in the year 1915, the Turkish government began the systematic destruction of its Armenian population.

BARNES & NOBLE | Wuthering Heights (Barnes & Noble Classics Series) by Emily Brontë, Barnes & Noble | NOOK Book (eBook), Paperback, Hardcover, Audiobook
Wuthering Heights- Emily Bronte-Unconventional characters such as Catherine & Heathcliff who were flawed and real human beings made this love story extremely realistic. twisted and dark and moody as the moors it is set in.
My FAVORITE book EVER! I read this at least once every year!
Emily Bronte takes you through the minds and hearts of a family that is ripped apart by a forbidden romance. The backdrop is the beautiful Yorkshire moors where the darkest of human emotions is mirrored in the darkest parts of a windy and dangerous landscape. The unforgiving cruelty of the moor highlights the cruelty in the hearts of the characters and mimics how dangerous emotions can be when out of control. The book follows the 2 main characters from childhood to adulthood to tragic death. It is a long and "old English" read, but well worth it to those who enjoy intense detail in writing, dark plots, lots of dialogue, and the bleak writing style of one of the classic literary Bronte sisters.
Seriously my all time FAVORITE!!! Thanks Mrs. Hern!!!!!

The Double Bind (couldn't put it down; doesn't end the way you would expect--one of my favorite authors)
The Double Bind, Chris Bohjalian. I wish I hadn't read this book. It is brutal and violent, and chronicles the protagonist's descent in psychosis. Dark, dark book, and I for one have no interest in being "entertained" by rape and mutilation. While well written, it also painfully drags on and on, and is ultimately a heartbreaking book I wish I'd never read. 2 of 10
One of my favorite books by my most favorite author...
The Double Bind: Chris Bohjalian

Room - 2012
Book Club, Mothers, Turner, Old Boys, Little Boys, Bookclub
Maybe because I have a little boy too, this novel about a mom and her little boy in extremis just floored me
Room: This very thought provoking book is written from the viewpoint of a a five year old boy. He has spent his entire life living inside a small room with his mother where they are imprisoned... What would that be like? How does his mom cope? I enjoyed this slightly "uncomfortable" book.
I didn't think I could read this book...but it was really good! Shows the power of a mother's love.
This book was an accident when I was on the kindle and it was amazing. Its told by a young boy who's mother and him have been held captive for all his life and half his mothers. Very good!
This book is captivating. Wonderful bond between mother and son and how they overcame life with their abductor.
It’s not often an author can write in a child’s voice that is not either woefully overdone, or wildly implausible. Emma Donoghue does a pretty fair job of it, taking us into the one-room world of the young narrator and his captive mother. It’s a short, quick read and very easy to get through. I have mixed feelings about the ending, but have no idea how it would have been done better.
1st book club selection -- highly recommended. written from the perspective of a 5 year old boy.
Room by Emma Donohue. To 5 yr old Jack, Room is the world. At night, Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, when Old Nick visits. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma it's the prison where she has been held for 7 years. Through her fierce love for her son, she has created a life for him in this 11x11 ft space. But with Jack's curiosity building alongside her own desperation, she knows that Room cannot contain either much longer. This book is an exciting page-turner!

Book club book books-worth-reading
Another one of my all time favorite books! When a white servant girl violates the order of plantation society, she unleashes a tragedy that exposes the worst and best in the people she has come to call her family. Orphaned while onboard ship from Ireland, seven-year-old Lavinia arrives on the steps of a tobacco plantation where she is to live and work with the slaves of the kitchen house. Under the care of Belle, the master's illegitimate daughter, Lavinia becomes deeply bonded to her adopted family, though she is set apart from them by her white skin. Eventually, Lavinia is accepted into the world of the big house, where the master is absent and the mistress battles opium addiction. Lavinia finds herself perilously straddling two very different worlds. When she is forced to make a choice, loyalties are brought into question, dangerous truths are laid bare, and lives are put at risk. The Kitchen House is a tragic story of page-turning suspense, exploring the meaning of family, where love and loyalty prevail.
