Leroy “Satchel” Paige was a right-handed pitcher who played in the Negro League as well as in Major League Baseball, though he didn't play in the major leagues until the age of 42. “Satchel” Paige, was named all-time outstanding player by the National Baseball Congress (January 30, 1965). Stars such as Joe DiMaggio, Bob Feller and others praised Paige as the best they had ever seen. He was the first player from the Negro League to be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.
Jackie Robinson - first African American to play in the Major Leagues. Arguably the greatest baseball player of all time, but no question he was the most inspirational. He played 5 varsity sports in college at the division 1 level.
