There are about 2000 tombs at the Etruscan Necropoli della Banditaccia in the Valley of Cerbeteri. Attracted by the mineral wealth found in the regions of Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria, the Etruscans made their way to Italy around 900 BCE. Traces of Etruscan civilization can be found in their burial sites and in the artifacts found in their tombs. They were preoccupied with the afterlife and dedicated much effort in building burial sites carved into rock or constructed from stone slabs.

Laconian (Spartan) bronze mirror said to be from southern Italy (Taranto?), second half of the century B. The handle is in the form of a young maiden standing on a recumbent lion with griffins springing from her shoulders.
