In 1939 Bette Davis escaped the bustle of Hollywood and moved to Sugar Hill, New Hampshire. She built a cottage/farm she dubbed `Butternut.While traversing a fairly treacherous hike in The White Mountains, she became lost by Bridal Veil Falls. There, she was 'rescued' by the handsome Arthur Farnsworth. a 33 year old "Yankee" like herself. A dashing, refined man, Farnsworth was an accomplished violist, pilot and outdoors man. On New Year's Eve, 1940, they were married.
