Geode Vessel by Joshua Salesin, 2017. Black agate, 4"H.
This vessel was made from a rough-turned bowl I started thirteen years prior and set aside due to imperfections in the wood. On revisiting the piece, I realized I could turn the bowl on its side and create a new form using the Geode Vessel design I was exploring at the time. The piece is hand-turned (not CNC!) using a rosette lathe. The exterior features the beautiful wood grain while the internal pattern is suggestive of the crystalline forms which occasionally produce spectacular geodes.
