10 Cold-Day Ideas to Keep the Kids Busy December 28, 2011 by Bobbi 1 Comment Christmas is over, but school is still out! Ack! That means loud choruses of “Mooooomm…I’m BOOOOOORED!”. Ooooh boy. What to do? I Share is a wonderful resource for finding ideas to keep those little fingers busy during winter break…especially if it’s cold outside! Here are just 10 ideas that I found. I bet you can find even more :) Let’s take a little peek at what caught my eye! 1. Popsicle Stick Puzzles I love this idea submitted by “Confetti and Other Fun”. My little twist? Use old Christmas cards, or Christmas Card photos as the picture on these popsicle stick puzzles for a festive twist! I am always wondering what to do with those beautiful cards, aren’t you? 2.Gingerbread Playdough There are some fantastic playdough recipes on I Share Crafts, but this one from “Homespun With Love” caught my eye. Gingerbread Playdough! That sounds seriously dangerous to me. I might be tempted to just eat it all! 3. No Knit Scarf If you are like me, you have an older child at home. Keeping those fingers busy (on something other than texting) can be more of a challenge. I love this idea of a no-knit DIY scarf. I can see my oldest daughter making these in every color and for all of her friends. LOVE! 4. Felt Masks Make some fun felt masks for hours of fun time play with the kiddos. Just use your felt stash and get creative! If you want to make a”furious” (ha) bird mask like this one from “Funky Polkadot Giraffe” you are in luck! She is sharing a free template! SCORE! 5. African Safari If the cold is getting to you, send the kids on an African Safari! “Therapeutic Crafting” has tons of great ideas and downloads to make this an adventure to remember! 6. Quiet Book Template Your little ones might need some grown-up help to make this, but afterward? SUCH QUIET! We all need a quiet book, don’t we? Now, if they only made one for dogs… 7. Toilet Paper Roll Art I would be so interested to see what my kids would create with old toilet paper rolls. If you take just a moment to give them a quick how-to, I bet they could spend hours creating. And who knows? Maybe you will end up with a totally unique piece of home decor art that will wow your guests! 8. DIY Bath Paint Bath time is so much more fun when color is involved. And when the snow is blowing outside, the more time spent in a nice, warm bath…the better! Check out AdelynSTONE’s awesome ‘recipe’ for homemade bath paint! 9. Twist on Charades This idea from “Sweeter Than Sweets” got me thinking. Not only can these blocks help to teach little ones about different emotions, they would be a fun way to act them out! Just roll the dice and act out what you land on! 10. Salt Dough Magnets Get those little fingers making something that is as useful as it is FUN! Check out these fun letter magnets from “Crafts By Amanda”. Great use of good ole salt dough! Is this a great start, or what? I am always looking for some crafty inspiration, and IShare NEVER fails! Be sure to pop by any (or all) of the IShare sites to submit YOUR ideas and get inspired yourself. No need for little fingers to be idle through the winter break :) I Share Crafts I Share Printables I Share Fun Food
