THE COMMODORE 64: One decision in fifth grade changed my life. It was finally time to get a home computer. I could get either a Coleco ADAM, and build my ColecoVision out to a full computer, or a Commodore 64. I got the C64, I learned to program on it, learned to love computer graphics, followed that passion into the Commodore Amiga and college, and from there into graphic design and ultimately photography, parallel with a career in computer programming. And one hell of a game machine.

Anybody remember ColecoVision?
Coleco Vision. This video game system was very advanced. It bridged the gap between the late 70s era of the Atari 2600 and Intellivision and the mid 80s era of the Nintendo.

Pac-Man (This may be the worst arcade game adaptation ever. Of course, that didn't stop me from playing it for hours and hours. Interesting Note: The Pac-Man sound effects are still used in tv shows and movies sometimes when they want to simulate someone playing a video game.)

Space Invaders was originally titled Space Monsters, after a popular song in Japan at the time, "Monster".It was originally released in the form of arcade cabinets and was blamed for the shortage and subsequent extra production of 100 yen coins at the time. In 1980 Atari was the first company to officially license an arcade game for its 2600 console. This was the first "killer app" for video games. Tomohiro Nishikado, who spent a year designing the game and developing the necessary hardware to produce it. The game's inspiration is reported to have come from varying sources, including an adaptation of the mechanical game Space Monsters released by Taito in 1972, and a dream about Japanese school children who are waiting for Santa Claus and are attacked by invading aliens. However, Nishikado has cited Atari's arcade game Breakout as his inspiration. Nishikado, was not satisfied with the movements of the early enemies - tanks, combat planes, and battleships; technical limitations made it difficult to simulate flying. Humans would have been easier to simulate, but Nishikado considered shooting them immoral. After seeing a magazine feature about Star Wars, he thought of using a space theme and drew inspiration for the aliens from H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds that he had watched on film as a child - hence the octopus-like aliens. Other alien designs were modeled after squids and crabs. (Edited from Wikipedia)
