Blooms Buttons - Totally Terrific in Texas

During read-aloud, have student select a button from a jar & then ask a question that corresponds to the color button chosen. Questions can be answered individually, in buddies, or in journal. Button cards correspond to Bloom's taxonomy...great idea!
I love this idea! Students pick a button out of a jar and the teacher picks a question that matches the button color. There is so many things you can do with this! You could make their response their reading response, you could have students answer individually or in partners. I can imagine in upper elementary this would be a great way to grab students attention, because they never know what level of a question they may get!
Blooms higher thinking questions--cool way to teach Bloom's Taxonomy to students...
My plan is to have button breaks, where a student will randomly choose a colored button from a can. The color they choose will correspond to a Bloom's Button Card which contains a question that corresponds to a particular level of Bloom's Taxonomy. Some times I may have them answer the question independently, they could do this either orally or in a journal. Other times they may try to answer the question with a buddy or a group. The goal is to get them thinking about the story as well as...

What exactly is differentiated instruction? A handy infographic from ASCD helps explain.
Schools Administration Teacher, Differentiation Classroom, Understands Instructions, Infographic Education Teaching, Classroom Differentiation, Differentiation Instructions, Differentiation Learning, Middle Schools Differentiation, Education Differentiation
What is differentiated learning, anyway? The recently released second edition of the book “The Differentiated Classroom: Responding to the Needs of All Learners” describes differentiated learning as addressing many students of “various backgrounds, readiness and skill levels, and interests”. Sounds pretty similar to personalized learning to me, though I’m sure there is quite a bit of nuance involved to -ahem- differentiate the two.
The Definition Of Differentiated Instruction.. What Differentiated Instruction Is–And Is Not...The following graphic from ASCD offers several examples of what differentiated instruction is–and is not. The information here comes from Carol Ann Tomlinson’s newest book,The Differentiated Classroom: Responding to the Needs of All Learners, 2nd Edition.
Connie M. Moss and Susan M. Brookhart draw from their extensive research and professional learning partnerships to provide strategies for designing learning targets and explain how to use them to promote higher-order thinking and foster student goal setting, self-assessment, and self-regulation.
