IPC - Paralympics News, Sports and Results
PARALYMPICS: From the IPC website: The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. Its purpose is to organize the summer and winter Paralympic Games and act as the International Federation for nine sports, supervising and coordinating World Championships and other competitions. The vision of the IPC, run by 200 members, is ‘To enable Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world.’
RICSTAR'S CAMP
SUMMER CAMP. Eric 'RicStar' Winter Music Therapy Camp at Michigan State University is a day camp open to individuals of all ages and disabilities and their siblings. Held each June, RicStar's Camp is focused on celebrating individual abilities and modeling inclusion. No one is turned away because of financial need or disability. Named in honor of my son, Eric, who had a remarkable gift for music, and cerebral palsy. Eric passed away in 2003 at age 12. Greatest teacher ever.
Living with Paralysis
THE PARALYSIS RESOURCE CENTER (PRC) is a terrific resource for those living with and those supporting others with spinal cord injuries. Part of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation effort, one of my favorites resources to share with others. You can also find that link there. Great caregiver support here, as well.
Education for People With Motor Disorders
CONDUCTIVE EDUCATION: From the CLC website: THE CONDUCTIVE LEARNING CENTER (CLC) serves children birth to age 26 with motor disorders related to complications of prematurity, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida or brain injury. Their focus is in on maximizing a child's independence.

MUSIC THERAPY. I'm a big fan of music therapy and the gains realized by many people with a wide range of special needs. Definition from the AMERICAN MUSIC THERAPY ASSOCIATION website: Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.
