E is for Explore!: Word Wheel - Pull a word from a bag and spin the wheel! Fun vocabulary building idea.
This vocab game might be worth a shot for secondary students...For the activity,toss vocabulary words in a lunch bag. Kids flick the game spinner, then pull out a word. Once they have their word, the fun begins! Students act, draw, rhyme, or define their word. They might also have to put it in a sentence, name what part of speech it is, or give a synonym or antonym for it. It's a game of chance!
E is for Explore!: Word Wheel Spinner & Tally Sheet Toss vocabulary words in a lunch bag, have the kids flick the game spinner, then pull out a word. They then either have to act, draw, rhyme, define, tell the part of speech, or give an antonym or synonym for the word. Fun!

Are you and your students stuck in the drudgery of antiquated vocabulary activities? Are you ready to lead your students down the path to become a “Vocabulary Visionary”? This product features a menu of12 engaging vocabulary activities that allow your students to demonstrate understanding and mastery of academic and domain-specific vocabulary words. Students will use a menu board to complete required and chosen activities for vocabulary words. For each word, students are required to define the word, identify the part of speech, and write a dictionary definition of the word. Next, students are given the choice to demonstrate their understanding of the word, and showcase their creativity, by completing one of twelve other activities for each word. Activities range from drawing pictorial representations of the word, to becoming “Detail Detectives” by writing detailed explanatory sentences, to writing haikus, to writing metaphor poems, to showing how “It’s All Relative” by listing related root words, to identifying synonyms and antonyms. Examples of each type of activity are provided on the menu board. A ten-point rubric is also provided. The product comes in a zip file and contains both a PDF and Word version of the product. Common Core Anchor Standards: Reading- Craft and Structure: 4. Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text, including determining technical, connotative, and figurative meanings, and analyze how specific word choices shape meaning or tone. Language- Vocabulary Acquisition and Use: 4. Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases by using context clues, analyzing meaningful word parts, and consulting general and specialized reference materials, as appropriate. 5. Demonstrate understanding of word relationships and nuances in word meanings. 6.
