Famed Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon stumbled on these seven island gems in 1513 and promptly dubbed them Dry Tortugas for their lack of fresh water and abundance of tortoises. Through the ensuing centuries the islands gained a reputation for concealing pirates and sunken treasure, as well as their wildlife. The pirates are gone, but the Dry Tortugas, which sit 70 miles west of todays Key West, remain an unspoiled paradise rich in marine and bird species.

The mountain lion was once near extinction. A wildlife treasure of Western America, this big cat is known by many other names, like the puma, cougar and deer tiger. While wild populations have rebounded over the years, habitat loss, poaching and territorial overlapping with human settlements continue to threaten the species. These solitary big cats are highly territorial and roam their range on the lookout for both invaders and prey.

I think that giraffes are the most beautiful animals ever. I would love to visit Giraffe Manor. It is a luxury boutique hotel located in Kenya, just about 12 miles outside of Nairobi, and Giraffe Manor is 12 acres of private land and 140 acres of indigenous forest that is home to a herd of Rothschild Giraffe. It was set up by AFEW (African Fund for Endangered Wildlife) as a breeding centre for the endangered Rothschild Giraffe.

Took this idea for a DVD colouring case from stacyvaughnblog.b... Making one each for the kids in my fourth grade class. We are going for an all day excursion to a game reserve. It will be the first time any of the kids have seen wild animals. A local video-rental shop had these old cases. Great recycling project!! Win-win!
