"Girl in Diner, 1953 Photo: Terence Spencer" ice cream parlor!
Terence Spencer Garota em lanchonete, 1953 This immediately brought to mind the minutes just before I was to learn my 21 yr old brother drowned in the Pacific Ocean. I was eight and had just purchased an ice cream cone across the street from our flat in San Francisco. I was just about to cross the street to return home when I suddenly felt an overpowering sense of dread come over me and I knew I had to get home immediately.
Garota em lanchonete, 1953 by Terence Spencer This picture makes me think of the stories my Mom told me of when she was a little girl and the soda counters. Makes me smile.

Dolores Modeling by Adolf de Meyer, 1921, gypsy fortune teller
Dolores Modeling by Adolf de Meyer, 1921 She came in hurriedly looking back making sure she wasn't being followed or that anyone has seen her enter the store. She sat down at the small round table nervously biting on her finger nail. She heard movement from behind the curtain, and her breath caught as it opened and she appeared, dressed in gold silk, carrying a round clear ball. "Please...I need to know..." she spoke in rushed whispers. The woman never spoke a word as she sat down and put the ball upon the table. She closed her eyes for what seemed to be to the inquirer eternity, before she opened them and gazed into the round crystal. Finally she spoke. "You are here with one question in your heart. I can tell you the things I see, but regardless of what they are you will still continue to believe what is in your soul." The woman sat there in stunned silence not knowing what to say about the cryptic reading. "Just...tell me...tell me...what you see." she begged. The beautiful witch glanced once again into the ball, as it seemed to catch fire with the candle light that was now swaying as if a breeze had blown in from the street. Odd, she thought. There is no breeze, but I'm chilled. The witch raised her eyes once again to peer deep into the dancing green pools across from her. "There is love yes. But not as you would want it. There will always be a river to cross with this love. The fates have already cut the string, now it is up to you to cut the silken thread as well." The witch scooted out her chair, gently picked up the crystal ball and walked back behind the curtain leaving the distraught woman to ponder upon what she had been told. She slowly rose, hand shaking as she replaced the chair. She walked out, not hearing the bell jingling over her head. She walked, for what seemed like hours to where he was. She sat down and bowed her head and told him what she had been told. Her tears fell like rain, but it had to be done. She had to finally let him go. Love is a very fragile thing, much like a butterflies wings it can be broken with a whisper of the lips. She stood up, wiping her wet face and walked away from him the final time.. May you rest in peace finally she said aloud as the cemetery gates clanged loudly behind her. *Princess Reigne*

40 Of The Most Powerful Photographs Ever Taken- Eight-year-old Christian Golczynski accepts the flag for his father, Marine Staff Sgt. Marc Golczynski, during a memorial service. Marc Golczynski was shot on patrol during his second tour in Iraq (which he had volunteered for) just a few weeks before he was due to return home. Oh my god this breaks my heart.
This broke my heart :( Choking back tears, Christian Golczynski accepted the flag from his father’s casket. Photographer Aaron Thompson described this moment as “the most emotionally moving event I may have ever witnessed and may ever witness in my life.” On March 27, just a few weeks before Marc Golczynski was to return home from his second tour in Iraq — one he volunteered for — he was shot on patrol and killed by enemy fire in al-Aanbar province. During a moment at the burial, Christian stepped forward to receive the flag for his father. The expression of grief on his young face was captured in a photo and became a powerful symbol for soldiers, their families and anyone who sees it. When asked about his dad, Christian said, “He was a hero. He helped our country.”
The little boy is Christian Goczynski he was 8 years old at the time. After surviving a year's tour last year, Christian's father, a Marine, volunteered to return to the war zone in hopes of "finishing what we started." Sadly, like far too many courageous soldiers, Staff Sgt. Marcus "Marc" Goczynski never returned home. Christian receiving his father's funeral flag.
